1. All uniform items will be issued on Loan from the Squadron. Cadets are to ensure that all uniform items fit properly and are carefully maintained. If you outgrown an item of clothing return it to supply and a replacement will be issued.
2. All special environmental clothing required by Cadets on exercises will be issued as required by the training program.
(for more information see Uniform Standards Page)
Hair: If it has been artificially colored will be a natural human shade. As a general rule Cadets should not alter their hair color.
Female: Hair will be pinned back, of the face, ears and collar. Long hair will be coiled at the back of the head and covered with a hair net to form a bun. Use of gel or hairspray is appropriate and will be expected. If you cut your hair, make sure it is long enough to be pinned back off the face and ears, while still not touching the collar. Bobby pins and hairnets will match the color of your hair, and will be tight to the head in order to prevent frizzes or fly away whether the hair is formed into a bun.
Male: Hair will be cut short and will be off the ears, forehead and 2.5cm above the collar Facial hair will not be accepted, unless the cadet in question has asked permission from their flight commander. In this case, moustaches will be neatly trimmed not tapering or extending over the upper lip. Beards and side burns will not be accepted as per RCAF Personnel Standards.
Headdress: Wedge will be place on the head, with buttons facing forward, and on a slight angle to the right (emblem side high). Wedge must also be clean, free of stains, and lint, and have the cadet’s name written on the tag inside.
Overall Appearance Standard These standards are here for you to follow. They exist so that each cadet will look their best at all times. Cadets should take pride in their uniform, as they are an expression of whom we are and who we represent.
Blue Dress Shirt: The blue dress shirt is to be worn only if the cadet is ranked sergeant and above with the tie and tunic, or as summer dress by lower ranks, or with the tie for lower ranks during CO’s parade. The dress shirt must be wrinkle and lint free, but must have a crease ironed down the centre of each sleeve and the collar must also be ironed to retain its shape.
Tie: The black issued tie may be tied with either a standard or Windsor knot, (please see illustration) but must be properly v-shaped. The top button of the shirt must not be showing.
Tunic: A cadet’s tunic must always be in top condition, as it is the first thing people notice when a cadet walks by. Badges must be seen on in the proper places (see illustrations) and any loose threads must be removed. Tunics should be ironed, but should not have any visible creases.
Trousers: Trousers must be hemmed to the proper length, when wearing the trousers and boots the bottom of the pant should reach the third lace. They should be ironed flat, and with one crease on each leg on front and back. They crease should start at the belt loop just above the pocket; reach all the way down to the middle of the bottom hem. The crease on the back should start at the middle belt loop and reach in a straight line to the middle of the bottom hem. All creases should be one continuous line from top to bottom. In other words, try not to put “train tracks” in your trousers.
Belt: The black belt should include a silver buckle. It should be fitted so that the silver end piece goes through the right side of the buckle, with a 2-3 cm gap between the belt end and the buckle.
Socks: Gray wool socks have been issued for the cadets use to wear while in uniform. They should be hung to dry as they will shrink in the dryer. If a cadet cannot wear the wool grey or black socks are appropriate.
Boots: parade boots must be both dust and dirt free, and uniformly polished t a high gloss, all the way around and from top to bottom. Points will be docked if the cadet has not polished the whole of both boots. Boot wells must be blackened with polish by using an old toothbrush. Laces must be straight lace (see illustration) and loose ends tucked into the boots.
Jewelry: Only one earring per earlobe is allowed for FEMALES ONLY. No other piercing is to be visible while in uniform.
Make up/Nails: Make up should be removed prior to putting your uniform on; as well nails should maintain a natural look.
1. Attendance is of primary importance to an Air Cadet Squadron and to a Cadet. The overall yearly attendance mark is one factor used in determining the Squadron’s Annual Efficiency Mark and subsequent Provincial placement. Of even greater importance is the impact of below average attendance on an Air Cadet. A Cadet must maintain not less than a 90% attendance rating to qualify for appointment to Cadet ranks, to qualify for Summer Camp and/or Summer Camp Employment or to qualify for selection to a National Course. Progression to the next Training Level is dependent on the Cadet completing the mandatory courses in the preceding Training Level. On average a Cadet Squadron parades 40 times per year. Therefore to maintain a 90% attendance average a Cadet may not miss more than 4 parade nights.
2. Leave of Absence will be divided into four categories. These are:
pre-authorized leave
family emergency leave
medical leave
non-authorized absence
A definition of each of the above is as follows:
PRE-AUTHORIZED LEAVE
Written request for leave not less than one week prior to leave dates and approved by the Administration Officer. Normally would be used for attendance at school functions (plays, band concerts, sports, etc), family commitments, attendance at meetings for other organizations, etc.
This type of will leave not be used to determine a Cadet’s attendance percentage up to 5 nights a year. Cadets will be required to make up missed training.
FAMILY EMERGENCY LEAVE
Upon verbal notification by telephone, or in person, leave will be granted in the event of an emergency involving a Cadet’s family. Inability to travel in inclement weather will also fall into this category.
This type of leave will not be used to determine a Cadet’s attendance percentage. Cadets will be required to make up missed training
MEDICAL LEAVE
In the event of a disabling injury where a medical authority has prescribed rest from physical activities, a Cadet will be granted leave.
This type of leave will not be used to determine a Cadet’s attendance percentage. Cadets will be required to make up missed training
NON-AUTHORIZED ABSENCE
When no prior arrangement has been made, a Cadet will be marked as absent from training.
